Handling of Personal Information for "Rakuten Link" Application

Rakuten Mobile, Inc. (hereinafter "Rakuten Mobile" or "we") hereby sets forth the privacy policy for handling user information* including personal information about you (i.e., the customer) in the smartphone application provided by Rakuten Mobile named "Rakuten Link" (hereinafter "App") as follows (hereinafter "Policy").

* User information refers to all information about you, i.e., the customer who uses the service.

1. User information to be gathered, method of gathering and purposes of use

In order to fulfill the following purposes of use, we will obtain user information automatically or based on what you input through the App.

*2 If permission to transmit geolocation information is turned off in your mobile phone settings, geolocation information will not be transmitted. Unless we have obtained your consent, or unless it is predictable that your geolocation information will be obtained/used judging from the context, we will use the geolocation information that we have obtained in a sufficiently anonymized state and will not use it in a manner linked to personal information.
*3 Individuals are not identifiable by advertisement ID. You can configure the settings to cease the transmission of advertisement ID in the device's settings menu.
*4 Information subject to secrecy of communications and exchanges about unpublished contents among you and other customers, etc. will not be viewed/used by us unless we have your consent.
*5 This is an identification number set arbitrarily by us with respect to each user. It does not include personal information such as your name and contact information.
*6 This includes name, address, phone number, date of birth, sex, email address, description of service currently under contract, Rakuten ID log-in information, customer registration information, etc.

2. Alteration of purposes of use

In cases where any purpose of use of user information is to be altered, the purpose of use shall not be altered to the extent that the pre-altered purpose of use is reasonably deemed to have become irrelevant.

Of note, in cases where such user information is to be used beyond the extent necessary for fulfilling the purposes of use referred to above, we will clarify the purpose of use and obtain your prior consent each time.

3. Third-party provision

1) Provision of information to Rakuten Group

Comprised of Rakuten Group, Inc. (hereinafter "Rakuten") and its subsidiaries and affiliates, the Rakuten Group provides many different kinds of services. We may provide information to the Rakuten Group as follows, to enable you to use such Rakuten Group services in a convenient and comfortable manner.

2) Provision of information to other third parties

In addition to 1), we may provide personal data retained by us to third parties, as shown in the table below. When we outsource all or part of our operations in conjunction with the management and operation of the App and the provision of other services, etc., we may provide personal data retained by us to the outsourcee.

Of note, in addition to the following, we may provide personal data retained by us to third parties after processing such personal data in a manner that makes individuals unidentifiable.

4. Information obtained by information-gathering module, etc.

An information-gathering module* that has the function of obtaining user information is embedded in the App. As described below, we will obtain user information from each information-gathering module.

Of note, user information may be stored in the server managed by the information-gathering module provider. Such user information will be used within the scope of the purpose of use stated in the respective privacy policies established by information-gathering module providers.

* Information-gathering module is a series of programs embedded and used in an application provided by an information-gathering module provider other than Rakuten Mobile, which have the function for obtaining user information.

5. Your consent to us obtaining and using user information

When you use the App, we shall obtain your consent for handling user information in accordance with Handling of Personal Information established by us as well as this Policy.

6. Cease of use of user information

The App allows you (i.e., the user) to stop the following user information from being obtained and used by performing the prescribed steps of your own accord.

Geolocation information: Please turn off the geolocation information settings in the device's settings menu or the geolocation information settings in the settings menu in the App.

If you wish to stop user information from being obtained and used other than the information referred to above, please uninstall the App of your own accord. Of note, even after you have uninstalled the App, we may use user information obtained by us before you uninstalled the App within the scope of the purposes of use prescribed in this Policy; however, such information will be deleted without delay by an appropriate method after the purpose of use has been fulfilled.

8. Revision of this Policy

From time to time, in order to comply with changes in applicable laws/regulations or for legitimate business purposes, etc., we may revise this Policy, in which case such revisions will be posted on our website or in the App. However, if the revision requires the user's consent pursuant to laws/regulations, we shall obtain consent from you, the user, by the method prescribed by us.
