Rakuten Mobile Establishes “Rakuten Mobile Communication Center” in Sendai City

- Expanding customer support capabilities with the opening of its first company-operated customer support center

Tokyo, October 23, 2020 – Rakuten Mobile, Inc. today announced that it has decided to open the “Rakuten Mobile Communication Center,” a new company-operated customer support center for its mobile carrier service in Sendai City.

At the Rakuten Mobile Communication Center, Rakuten Mobile will provide customer support, responding to the various inquiries from its customers. To date, inquiries from customers have been handled by customer support teams including staff from external companies in multiple locations throughout Japan, including Rakuten Mobile’s headquarters in Futako-Tamagawa, Tokyo. However, in order to create a support system to respond to the diversifying range of inquiries from customers, and to enable customers to use the service with peace of mind, Rakuten Mobile will establish its first company-operated customer service center in Sendai City, and expand the number of communication center staff. The center in Sendai will open in November 2020, with the number of staff working at the facility being gradually increased while countermeasures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are carefully implemented.

Sendai City was chosen as the location for the Rakuten Mobile Communication Center because the city is proactively inviting companies from outside the region in order to secure talent, the easy accessibility from Tokyo, where Rakuten’s headquarters are located, and the city’s deep connection to the Rakuten Group as the home ground of the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles. Rakuten Group company Rakuten Card, Co., Ltd. also established a contact center in Sendai City in March 2020. On October 20, 2020, Rakuten, Inc. and Sendai City concluded a comprehensive cooperation agreement, and the two organizations will continue to expand their cooperation through initiatives such as increasing the number of domestic and overseas visitors to the area and promoting regional development through sports. Furthermore, by opening the Rakuten Mobile Communication Center, Rakuten will contribute to regional development through job creation and other efforts.

Rakuten Mobile will endeavor to improve its services to make the daily lives of its customers even more convenient and comfortable.
