Rakuten Mobile Launches New Campaign Offering Three Months of Service Free of Charge
- Celebrating first anniversary of full-scale launch of mobile carrier service; Total cumulative number of applications surpasses 3.9 million
Tokyo, April 8, 2021 – Rakuten Mobile, Inc. today marked the first anniversary of the full-scale commercial launch of its mobile carrier service. In order to provide more customers with the opportunity to try the service, the company has launched a new promotional campaign that offers the Rakuten UN-LIMIT VI service plan to customers free of charge for the first three months of service.
About the new campaign
Customers who sign up for the Rakuten UN-LIMIT VI service plan for the first time or switch to the plan via MNP (mobile number portability), as well as current users of the Rakuten Mobile MVNO service (DOCOMO and au lines) who switch to the MNO service, will be offered the first three months of service free of charge from the day their mobile line is activated*1. The campaign is only open to customers who are applying for Rakuten UN-LIMIT VI for the first time. Applications will be accepted online from the Rakuten Mobile website and at Rakuten Mobile shops from today.

First anniversary of full-scale commercial launch
Since full-scale commercial launch of its mobile service in April 2020, Rakuten Mobile has carried out various measures to improve the quality of its service, including upgrading the service plan, expanding its network area, and increasing the number of Rakuten Mobile shops and lineup of original devices and products compatible with its network. As of April 8, 2021, the total cumulative number of applications for the Rakuten UN-LIMIT VI service plan has surpassed 3.9 million*2. The total number of Rakuten Mobile contracts, including MVNO contracts, has now reached 4.5 million.
About Rakuten UN-LIMIT VI
The Rakuten UN-LIMIT VI service plan features a simple fee structure that flexibly adjusts in line with the customer’s monthly data use. The service plan caters to the diverse needs of customers, from light users who consume very little data, to heavy users who don’t want to have to worry about their monthly data use. As with the previous plan, subscribers can use both 4G and 5G services*3, in addition to free domestic calls when using the Rakuten Link communication app*4.
With the Rakuten UN-LIMIT VI service plan, the monthly rate is determined by the amount of data used each month. When total monthly data usage is 1GB or less, the fee will be zero yen for a customer’s first line. If the total monthly data usage is between 1GB and 3GB, the fee will be 980 yen (1,078 yen including tax), and for total monthly data usage between 3GB and 20GB, the fee will be 1,980 yen (2,178 yen including tax) for a customer’s first line. Customers whose data usage exceeds 20GB can use unlimited data*5 in the Rakuten network area for 2,980 yen per month (3,278 yen including tax). For customers with a second line, total monthly data usage of 3GB or less will be charged at 980 yen (1,078 yen including tax). Applications are now being accepted both online on the Rakuten Mobile official site and at Rakuten Mobile shops nationwide.

*1 This special offer can only be used once per customer for one line. The offer will be applied to the first line that the customer applies for. Separate charges apply for product purchases, option fees, calls and others. Customers who have taken part in the one-year free campaign will not be eligible for the new three-month free campaign.

*3 4G service can be used in the Rakuten network area, the domestic roaming partner network areas and the overseas roaming partner network areas. 5G service is available in certain areas only. A 5G-compatible device is required to use the 5G service.
